About Kings Indian Chess
An in-person youth chess club in Chantilly, VA. Since 2014 we’ve coached 500+ young players — from first moves to rated tournament play — under US National Master David Bennett, trainer of five DC Champions. We meet Sundays at the Dulles South Senior Center, grouped by skill, and we’re a 100% volunteer-run program run by Pragathi USA (501(c)(3)) — so taking part also gives back here and in India.

A US National Master and International Candidate Master, David has trained five DC Champions. His teaching turns chess into a framework for problem-solving — helping students concentrate, reason clearly, and improve their logic, one game at a time.
Meet the team →Why Chess
Our curriculum emphasizes problem-solving activities that require strong analytical ability and critical-thinking skills — habits that carry straight into academics and life.
Every move is a decision. Students learn to calculate, weigh trade-offs, and plan several steps ahead.
A clear path from Beginner to Tournament level, so every student is challenged at the right pace.
Two in-house tournaments a year let students test their skills and experience real tournament play.
Chess rewards calm, careful thinking. Kids build the patience to slow down, look before they leap, and stay focused under pressure.
Spotting tactics and recalling openings sharpens memory and quick pattern recognition — skills that carry straight into the classroom.
Winning and losing graciously builds resilience, self-confidence, and genuine respect for opponents — on and off the board.
Studies link chess to stronger math, reading, and problem-solving scores — the skills built at the board show up on the report card.
With the clock ticking, students learn to make confident decisions quickly and trust their own preparation and judgment.
Finding the unexpected move trains kids to think creatively, picture possibilities, and approach problems from new angles.
Programs
All classes meet Sundays, 2:00–4:00 PM, beginning September 13, 2026 — In-Person Classes at Dulles South Senior Center, Chantilly.
Kings Indian Chess is a community program led by US National Master David Bennett. Private coaching of this caliber typically runs $60–$120+ an hour — we keep our fees a small fraction of that on purpose, so cost is never a barrier for a child who wants to learn. It's outstanding value, not a compromise.
