📊 How the Club Rating is calculated
How we pick our leaders: each student earns a Club Rating that blends game results (ELO-rated), lessons completed, puzzles solved and chess etiquette. Players are ranked within their own level, so the top of each level is its current leader.
- Starting rating — set by your level: Beginner 800, Intermediate 1000, Advanced 1200, Tournament 1400.
- Game results — every club game, tournament and online match is ELO-rated (K-factor 32). Beat a higher-rated opponent and you gain more; the closer the matchup, the smaller the swing.
- Study bonuses — completing lessons (+3 each) and solving puzzles (+1 each) add to your Club Rating, so learning counts too.
- Chess etiquette — good manners, sportsmanship and respect for opponents earn +1 etiquette point each, also lifting the Club Rating.
- Events — in-person tournaments and online events also update your rating.
- Promotion — moving up a level lifts your rating to that level's floor.
